When people think about the breakfast of champions, everyone’s mind goes to eggs, toast, grits, and bacon. Although it’s a good source of protein, A simple fruit bowl can provide that and more while satisfying your taste buds. There’s a saying that you should eat every color of the rainbow because of each color’s benefits. For Instance, Red is for the heart, white is for immunity, yellow is for the skin, green is for cleansing, orange is for inflammation, and violets are for Antioxidants. This morning for breakfast, I had each rainbow color (except for green) in my bowl. See what I had this morning for breakfast:
When you have a rough week, it’s good to take care of yourself to feel good for the next day. Thursdays are my days for self-care; this is the time for me to put my phone on airplane mode, listen to some 90’s R&B, and give myself a spa treatment. I don’t know about you, but an at-home Facial before the weekend is what I need to feel refresh and rejuvenated. I tried a new Simple Skin Regimen from the JNL Naturals Shine collection. This kit consisted of a cleansing bar, Lip Balm, Face Salve, and Konjac Sponge. Let’s see how everything worked on this night of self-care.
Face and Body Cleansing Bar
There’s a saying to never use the same cleanser for your body and face. But, JNL Naturals put those stereotypes to rest with their unique Face and Body cleanser that has seven organic ingredients found in your home to cleanse your skin without any irritation. To start self-care Thursday, I took a shower, paired the cleansing bar with JNL Natural’s bamboo loofah to exfoliate my skin, gently applied the bar to my face, and washed in a circular motion until my face felt squeaky clean. The smell was light and didn’t contain any fragrance. The consistency of the product was excellent and didn’t break out my skin. My face felt prepared for the next step of my skincare regimen using the Konjac Sponge.

Our skin is constantly under attack with environmental stresses and toxins every day when we leave the house, so it is essential to exfoliate at least twice a week. JNL Natural has created the Konjac Sponge that is gentle enough to use on a baby’s skin but powerful enough to slough off dead skin cells to get that smooth and glowing complexion. After cleansing my skin, I placed the sponge under water and squeezed the water out; I gently rotated the sponge on my face in a circular motion and then applied the face salve.

After cleansing and exfoliation, moisturizing my skin is a must, even before I go to bed, regardless of skin type. Every night before I go to bed, I apply the face salve. This face salve creates better skin for the next day and added the appropriate moisture to my dry spot without having my skin look and feel super oily. The following day, I woke up to smooth and hydrated skin.

Papaya Seed Oil – helps combat wrinkles, scars, large pores, acne, dark spots, and other skin blemishes. Organic Argan Oil- protects against sun damage. Lavender Essential Oil- lessen acne. Rose Geranium Essential Oil- applied to the skin as an astringent that tightens, brightens and removes dead skin cells.
Who doesn’t love a good lip balm? I apply the lip balm after my morning shower, multiple times throughout the day, and before bed. My lips always feel smooth and moisturize when I use this product.

2020 has been one hell of a year! Who would have thought that coming close to your loved ones without a face mask could be considered a life and death situation? My birthday has just passed, and the last thing I wanted to do was stare at a screen on another zoom chat. I was fortunate for DC to be in phase two of reopening, which meant outdoor dining. I booked a rooftop reservation with three of my friends at the Delegate. I must say that this was a vibe, the ambiance was great, the view was breathtaking, the food was delicious, and they played 90s Hip Hop and R&B along with Reggae. After being cooped up in the house for the past four months, I truly appreciated this time to safely celebrate with my friends. I felt comfortable eating outside. We wore our face masks to our table and was able to take it off once we sat down. The Delegate made everything safe for their guests; the tables were more than six feet apart, and we used the gotab app to order and pay for our food.
For those who have Birthdays coming up and considering eating out at a rooftop, I recommend going to a place that takes proper precautions to make sure their guests are safe. I wouldn’t risk eating where there are large crowds. As of recently, COVID cases has increased, if you decide to go out, please take the proper measures to ensure your safety.

We are going through uncertain times right now. There’s a person out there struggling to stay home, unemployed, scared of experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, and dealing with the scarcity of necessary supplies (such as toilet paper, Thanks Panic Buyers!) while trying to stay healthy. Any one of these things brings an enormous amount of stress to your body. The truth is that stress can send you to the hospital faster than the coronavirus can. I finished reading “More Than Enough” by Elaine Welteroth. This book explores Elaine’s journey of growing up as a biracial kid in California to becoming the first black editor-in-chief at Teen Vogue.
REST: There’s a false narrative going around that sleep is the cousin to death, or that successful people don’t sleep. In actuality, you are doing more harm than good by skipping out on your rest. Sleep strengthens your immune system and combats infections in your body. Why else do you think your doctor advise rest along with your prescription?
RELAX: Stress can increase your heart rate and cause your body to deteriorate. Unfortunately, there’s nothing you can do about this pandemic! Why not pamper yourself instead? When was the last time you allocate time for yourself? This past weekend I did my nails for the first time since February using Deco Miami vegan nail polish. Growing Up with a vegan Mother and a diabetic Father, I thought that I knew everything I need to know about health and wellness until I started my career in the spa industry. I became opened to other ways of staying healthy and wasn’t aware that it consisted of an occasional spa night. Honestly after hearing the word; my first thought was “How can a heated room benefit me?” So, my manager recommends that we have a spa night. For those who are not accustom to Spaing; it consists of a Jacuzzi, Artic Cold Plunge dip, Turkish Steam Room, Swedish and Russian Sauna. We invited a couple of our friends; she gave us a tutorial on how to spa correctly. She explained that the steam room and saunas were great ways to detox, increase metabolism, reduce stress, build immunity and is an excellent source of hangover relief (Wish I would have known this a couple of years ago; that’s another story). On our first Spa night, we spent 30 minutes in the steam room, 10 minutes in the Swedish sauna, and 5 minutes in a 200 degree Russian Sauna. Afterwards, we took a quick dip a 52 -degree Arctic cold plunge pool that closes up your pores after an intense night of steaming. After a night of proper spaing, it felt like my body had just undergone renovation, and now I cannot seem to go a week without a good spa night. I started to incorporate an ab and leg workout each room. For those who are interested in the health and wellness lifestyle; I suggest that you purchase a membership at Spa in your area. Trust me; It is worth it.
Throughout my adolescent, I experienced the perfect skin. The only time I saw a pimple was during my menstrual cycle. Everything began to change once I hit 27 and became a victim to adult acne. I couldn’t understand why my skin decided to go haywire at this point of my life. I went to a dermatologist and was given a pill and topical cream for breakouts. I must say that this treatment worked for a short period. I wanted to go back to the dermatologist, but I didn’t have the money, nor could I see myself taking acne medications for the rest of my life. I was so frustrated that I decided to confide in a colleague of mines who suggested that I get a facial. I was against it at first because I always view facials as being luxury, but after doing research I found that facial cut serum that causes acne, cleanses, and revitalise the skin by enriching blood to skin cells and restoring skin’s nutrient. After researching and taking advice from my colleage; I finally tried my first facial and I felt exhausted. My skin was actually congested. The steam that she applied on my face flushed out all impurities and increased the blood circulation to my skin. I must say the most painful part of my facial were the extractions. I could have done without them, but extractions are essential to clearing out my follicles. Once my facial finished, my Esthetician gave me a good skin care regimen that I live by and I must say that my skin has cleared up since February.
