The next time you go to Starbucks, make sure you order a tall matcha green tea, take the lid off, dump the drink on your hair, and watch your hair strengthen and see growth overnight. I am just Kidding! No need to do that when Ecoslay has created a stellar protein treatment for high and low porosity hair that will restore health to your hair and prevent damage. Ecoslay’s Matcha Boost consists of ingredients found in your kitchen that wake up hair follicles, cause growth, and strengthen weaker hair strands. First, I use a primer to prep for washing; next, I use the wash & detox shampoo to cleanse my scalp; then I apply the Matcha Boost protein treatment for five minutes with heat; and finally, I use a deep protein-free conditioner to add moisture to my hair. After one use, my hair looked healthy and felt stronger. Since I have low porosity hair, I apply this treatment once a month with heat. You can refer to the table on the product label to determine your hair porosity’s proper usage. Although this treatment has worked on my hair, if you are experiencing any damage to your hair, I would recommend seeking a professional hairstylist to correct this problem.
Four Ingredients found in your kitchen: Hydrolyzed Quinoa Protein – penetrates the hair shaft for robust protection. Colza Oil- loaded with Vitamin E that increases moisture and smoothness while assisting with hair growth. Matcha Extract – is useful for hair growth, maintaining healthy hair, and beneficial to your scalp’s skin. HP Starch – helpful for those with oily and moist scalp; cornstarch sucks up the the condensation and grease , so your scalp and hair stays fresh.

From reading my previous post on finding a clean foundation, it’s evident that I am a fan of the Mineral Fusion Sheer Tint Foundation. My only gripe with this product was the lack of representation when it came to shades. I was able to pass by using the “Olive, Olive” shade. But, what about everyone else who is unable to wear the available three shades? This brand failed to portray consumers with unique skin tones, which was the real reason why I switched to Uoma Beauty. This black-owned beauty brand launched in 2018 with the Beauty Innovator Award Winner, Say What?! Foundation. Since the beginning of the pandemic, places like Sephora and Ulta Beauty suspended product testing. For my advent beauty buyers, you know first hand how difficult it can be to find the right shade without testing the foundation first. Little did I know that Uoma Beauty was one step ahead of the game with their accurate online shade finder that sifts through 51 shades to find your complexion match. First, you select your shade out of six skin color groups, pick the shade within the skin color group, identify your undertone, and they will pull-up your proper skin match. They successfully matched me with Honey Honey, T2N. I intended to purchase the foundation, but I couldn’t resist adding the concealer and contour stick to my cart. See my review of each product below.
SAY WHAT?! FOUNDATION
I bought this foundation in July during the quarantine. It came just in time for me to try on my birthday. This soft-matte foundation was perfect for my oily skin because it could soak up the excess oil while giving me long-lasting full coverage makeup without drying out my skin. The Say What?! Foundation was the ideal shade until I developed a bronze skin tone after exercising every day outside. So, I had to manipulate a lot using my contour stick and bronzer to match my summer tanned skin. I recommend applying the foundation on clean skin after your moisturizer and primer. I apply a generous amount of foundation to get full coverage and then use a makeup sponge to blend the application into my skin.
STAY WOKE CONCEALER
I apply the Stay Woke Concealer after the Say What?! Foundation to brighten my complexion, most importantly, under my eyebrow to shape, define and hide the hair (it’s been a year since I had my eyebrows done, so this concealer has been my BFF). First, I use the concealer as a primer on my eyelids and under eyebrow before applying the foundation on my face (Helpful tip: I recommend doing your eyes before your foundation). After I finished my eyes and lay the foundation, I use the Stay Woke Concealer under my eyes, swipe down the nose, chin, and on the area of my forehead located between my eyebrows (sorry, I don’t know what part of the face this is). This product was easy to blend and brighten my darker areas.
DOUBLE TAKE CONTOUR STICK
The Double Take Contour Stick is my favorite product from the line because you get two products for one price. This Double Take Contour Stick has a highlighter that gives you a luminous glow, and the contour stick enhances your face’s shape. I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I used the contour stick to compliment my newfound tan. I’m aware of the contour stick’s job, but buying another foundation wasn’t in the budget until fall. After using the foundation and concealer, I applied the contour stick along the hairline of my forehead, temples, under my cheekbone, Jawbone, and then blend using my makeup sponge (Fyi: a little goes a long way). Then I apply my translucent setting powder, blush, and finally, use the highlighter on my cheekbone, the bridge of my nose, and tear ducts; and gently blend using my fingers to get that luminous finish.
HERE ARE THE RESULTS
As you can see, the results are breathtaking. I get a long-lasting natural look.
For my Beginners (like me), I would suggest watching Slim Reshae on applying makeup for beginners.
Since the beginning of this pandemic, I had more time to research hair products out on the market. I came across CurlSmith’s products while searching the web for vegan hair care. This product has been on my radar for three years. But, I was reluctant to purchase this product due to the prices because there’s nothing worse than investing money in a product that does not work on your hair. After watching a product review of Curlsmith’s Weightless Air Dry Cream on Alyssa Marie’s youtube channel, I realized that I had the wrong approach when it came to purchasing hair products. All of the hair products that I had in my cabinet had horrible ingredients for my low porosity hair. So, I threw out my hair products and took the curl quiz on Curlsmith’s website to determine which product will be good for my hair. They asked detailed questions about my hair porosity, density, curl pattern, texture, and problem areas to select custom products that will work for my hair. Let’s see what products Curlsmith has chosen for me!
Super Slip Pre-Biotic Primer
When Curlsmith suggested the Super Slip Pre-Biotic Primer, I wondered why I would need to apply a primer before shampooing my hair. From the research that I’ve done on primers, I found that it serves as a protective layer to maintain its moisture before you shampoo. According to Curlsmith, “The super slip prebiotic contains balanced pre-biotics to help create the perfect environment for hair follicles strengthening the scalp and prepping it for clarifying.” I wet my hair, and put a quarter size primer on my hand, and work the product through my hair. I leave the primer in my hair for one minute before applying the Wash and Scrub Detox Pro-Biotic.
Five Main Ingredients: Glycerin – moisturizes hair and prevents breakage. PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil– helps to remove grease from oils and causes them to become suspended in the liquid. Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) root – encourages healthy growth by stimulating the hair follicles and improving scalp circulation. Inulin – is prebiotic, which is a nutritional compound that feeds the good bacteria. Citric Acid – improves the scalp condition by getting rid of dandruff.
Wash & Scrub Detox Pro-Biotic
After using the primer, the Wash and Scrub Detox Pro-Biotic gently exfoliates the scalp and removes all impurities to promote a healthy environment for the hair follicles to flourish. People with Low Porosity hair tend to have trouble absorbing moisture, so it’s imperative to have a shampoo that will effectively clean your scalp, making it possible for your pores to open for moisture to penetrate your hair follicles.
Five Main Ingredients: Lactobacillus ferment Lysate– is a probiotic that strengthens the scalp’s protective barrier and helps your hair to grow. Dragonfruit– is a natural antioxidant that calms and clears the scalp creating the perfect condition for growth. Malva Sylvestris (Mallow) Flower Extract– helps with those who have psoriasis, eczema, and many skin problems that affect the scalp. Perlite– is a micro scrub made of volcanic ash that effectively exfoliates and gets rid of buildup. Acetic Acid (Vinegar)– It is excellent to clarify the hair, get rid of buildup, and enhance your natural healthy shine.
Weightless Air Dry Cream
Curlsmith’s Weightless Air Dry Cream is my favorite product from their scalp line. After applying a deep conditioner, I use Curlsmith’s Weightless Air Dry Cream to add moisture to my hair. This is a lightweight water-based product that provides intense moisture and makes it easier for moisture to absorb in my hair without weighing it down. With fine low porosity hair, it’s essential to have water as the main ingredient because our hair characteristics like to repel moisture. After applying this product to each hair strand, my hair feels silky and soft, making it manageable for me to comb through.
Five Main Ingredients: Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil– enhances hair follicles’ health and promotes hair growth. Babassu Oil– Soothes the scalp and promotes hair growth. Wild Murumuru– soften hair, improves manageability, and seals in moisture. Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil– helps increase hair growth. Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter)– nourishes the hair with Vitamins.
Hold Me Softly Style Balm
I use the Hold Me Softly Style Balm after the Weightless Air Dry Cream. This styling product provides a soft hold on my curls without leaving a hard, crunchy residue.
Five Main Ingredients: Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil–Penetrates the hair shaft due to its molecular weight, cools the scalp, and retains moisture in your hair. Rosemary– Improves scalp health and stimulates hair growth. Avocado– smoothens, condition, and deeply nourishes the hair. Apricot Kernel– softens hair, improves manageability, and seals in moisture. Salvia Officinalis (Sage) Leaf Extract–The natural oils in sage strengthens the roots and stimulate healthy hair growth.

Hair Salons are closed, and it’s up to us to maintain our appearances until this quarantine is over. My go-to-styles has been a wash-and-go, braids, and two-strand twists. My saving grace has been Camille Rose’s Honey Leave-in Conditioner. For those who are unaware of the magical powers of Honey, well, here it is! Honey is an emollient that moisturizes, locks in shine, and restores the natural luster in your hair. To get the most out of this product, I wash and condition my hair first and then apply the Honey onto damp hair with my fingers to ensure that moisture reaches every strand of my hair. The Honey has left my hair hydrated and smooth.
Five ingredients that stood out: Honey– smooth the hair follicles, and add shine to dull hair. Olive Fruit Oil – is rich in Vitamin E and is considered a powerful antioxidant that helps moisturize and protect hair from damage. Aloe Leaf Juices – penetrates the hair shaft for intense moisture promoting hair growth through its richness in essential fatty acids. Sugar Cane– rehydrates the dry scalp. Sweet Orange Fruit Oil– improves the hair strands, smooths, and moisturizes dry strands (helps in hair growth, treats hair loss, gives hair shine, and removes dandruff.
Go to Camille Rose website for more information on their Leave-in Collection.
In everyday makeup, you will find toxic ingredients that are linked to allergies, irritation, harming your reproductive system, or even causing cancer. Now in days, makeup brands are becoming more conscious of what they put in their products. But be mindful of products claiming to be vegan, but still have ingredients that cause harm to your body. I prefer a brand that prides itself on product safety and organic ingredients like ILIA does. Their True Skin Serum Concealer is a favorite product of mines. This lightweight creamy concealer has a serum texture that adds moisture while perfectly blending into the skin to brighten the dark circles under the eye. It is best to apply this concealer under the eye before blending your foundation. According to Bobbi Brown, you should find a concealer with a yellow tone that is one to two shades lighter than your skin to lighten the dark circles under the eyes.
I’ve listed two safe ingredients that give this product an advantage over the concealers that are currently in the market right now:
Albizia Julibrissin Bark Extract– protects collagen and elastin, and reduces the signs of under-eye bags, dark circles, and a dull complexion. Tetrabexyldecyl Ascorbate– is a very stable oil-soluble Vitamin C that has an antioxidant activity that helps stimulate collagen production as well as clarifying and brightening the skin.
During the winter, my hair becomes very unmanageable. I tried popular oils such as olive, coconut, and Jamaican Castor oil; these oils sat on top of my hair instead of penetrating moisture into my hair shaft. The problem wasn’t the oils, but the lack of knowledge of knowing what my hair needs. I have low porosity hair, which means my hair does not absorb moisture. The oils that I named were more suited for those with high porosity hair. Low porosity hair requires products that would provide moisture without weighing the hair down. According to https://naturalhairinsights.com/top-10-light-oils-for-low-porosity-hair/ Sweet Almond Oil is considered the top 10 oils to use for low porosity hair. Now Solution’s Sweet Almond Oils is 100% pure almond oil derived from fresh almonds. This vegan oil is rich in vitamins that promote hair growth and a healthy scalp. I prefer this oil for the colder month when my hair begins to dry out. I use the sweet almond oil for my LCO (Leave-in conditioner, cream, oil) routine. This oil is applied last to increase moisture retention from the leave-in conditioner and styling cream. After weeks of using this oil, my hair doesn’t feel dry or brittle, but feels smoother and looks hydrated.

Foundation- is the lowest load-bearing part of a building, typically below ground level.
Applying foundation on the face is similar to designing the right foundation to fit the building conditions of a home. The foundation is the starting point to achieving any beauty look. A couple of tips I’ve learned from my friends in purchasing foundation is to get the right shade for your skin (you can test this on the transverse carpal part of the hand), foundation color should match your neck, and consider the best formula for skin type (such as powder, liquid or water-based). This is all helpful, but a lot of foundations on the market has toxic ingredients that cause skin irritations, developmental problems, cancer, and even reproductive issues. This information alone has led me to a vegan foundation from Mineral Fusion’s makeup line named sheer tint mineral foundation. Mineral Fusion sheer tint mineral foundation is a lightweight foundation that gives full coverage with a consistent texture that goes on smoothly and has a luminous finish. To all the natural beauties out there, you can get the appearance of having no foundation without masking your natural skin. I have worn this product on numerous occasions and received compliments on how beautiful my skin looks. My only gripe with this product is that there are only three shades available for this line. I was fortunate enough to find a shade that compliments me, but everyone should be able to experience how unique this product is. I want to recommend creating different colors for customers with darker, yellow, or cooler skin tones.
Here are five products to stay away from when picking out your next foundation: BHA, Siloxanes (D4&D5), Lead, Mercury, and Talc.
