It’s good to have friends who love to thrift just as much as I do. Since there is no- where to go right now, we decided to shop for outfits to wear to brunch at Mi Vida Restaurant. See what looks we brought to the restaurant this past weekend.

With the state of the world today, I wanted to pay homage to those who have fought, marched, preached, and spent time behind bars for me to have opportunities today. I transformed this comfy burnt orange pull-on-pants into a stylish outfit by pairing it with a long sleeve crop top, a vintage- gold plated belt buckle to bring out the look, and wore a beret to make a statement. Since brunch is an all-day thing, I wore a black blazer to protect me from that fall breeze and black booties for height.

Not only does she decorate homes , but she also puts fashion masterpieces together. She wore hot chocolate leather pants with a soft white dressy turtleneck blouse and decorative black necklace to add finishing touches to her outfit. Be sure to follow her home décor page for the latest trends @stylemeshannyb.

She brought 90s nostalgia to brunch with her short plaid skirt, black turtleneck, black thigh-high boots, and yellow raincoat to add a pop of color to her trendy outfit. Did I mention that she’s a dope artist? Follow her @pnma to listen to her music.

Our skin takes a beating on a day-to-day basis. Every time we step outside of our home, our skin is continuously under attack by environmental conditions, stress, diet, and hormones. We all are guilty of neglecting our skin due to our busy schedule; Why not take advantage of this lazy weekend to give your skin the proper tender, love, and care with Eminence’s Hungarian Herbal Mud Treatment. This treatment is suitable for detoxifying your skin of impurities, opening your pores, and regenerating your skin cells all in five minutes. Let me take you through my step-by-step process of using this treatment.

Step One: Cleanse
I use Tatcha’s Deep Cleanse to wash my face before applying the treatment

Step Two: Apply Treatment
I appy a thin layer of Eminence’s Hungarian Herbal Mud Treatment on my face and leave it on for five minutes. Note: this treatment is powerful, so I recommend diluting it with water first.

Step Four: Apply Serum
After five minutes, wash the treatment off. Note: Due to the increased circulation from the treatment, you may experience a tingling sensation for 20 minutes and redness for up to 45 minutes.

Step Four: Apply Serum
I apply Dirty Lab’s Ultra Night Serum to close my pores.

Here is my skin fully detoxed and refreshed. I use this treatment once a week.

My Favorite Five Ingredients:

  • Hungarian Thermal Mud: has a high amount of mineral trace elements, and sulfur which improves acne conditions and nourishes the skin; the mud reduces sebum production, improves skin’s texture, tone, and vitality.
  • Cinnamon – conditions the skin and revitalizes its appearance.
  • Paprika -has an enormous amount of vitamin C source that fights the aging effects of free radicals to protect and brighten your skin.
  • Sunflower Seed Oil – acts as an emollient to keep the skin well hydrated.
  • Acai– unclog pores and encourage the regeneration of skin cells.

THRIFT STORE FINDS: Rainy Days in Fall

THRIFT STORE FINDS: Rainy Days in Fall

Rainy days in the fall are difficult to dress for; the weather is colder, the wind is harsher, and the rain lasts longer. Finding a good rain jacket during this time of the year can be challenging because if you wear a coat, you’ll be too warm, and wearing a spring rain jacket is not heavy enough to keep you warm. This past Monday, the weather called for rain with a high of 56 and a low of 39; I wore a Liz Claiborne rain jacket, along with a forest green sweater and rain boots to keep me warm and dry.

MATCHA BOOST: Protein For the Hair

MATCHA BOOST: Protein For the Hair

The next time you go to Starbucks, make sure you order a tall matcha green tea, take the lid off, dump the drink on your hair, and watch your hair strengthen and see growth overnight. I am just Kidding! No need to do that when Ecoslay has created a stellar protein treatment for high and low porosity hair that will restore health to your hair and prevent damage. Ecoslay’s Matcha Boost consists of ingredients found in your kitchen that wake up hair follicles, cause growth, and strengthen weaker hair strands. First, I use a primer to prep for washing; next, I use the wash & detox shampoo to cleanse my scalp; then I apply the Matcha Boost protein treatment for five minutes with heat; and finally, I use a deep protein-free conditioner to add moisture to my hair. After one use, my hair looked healthy and felt stronger. Since I have low porosity hair, I apply this treatment once a month with heat. You can refer to the table on the product label to determine your hair porosity’s proper usage. Although this treatment has worked on my hair, if you are experiencing any damage to your hair, I would recommend seeking a professional hairstylist to correct this problem.

Four Ingredients found in your kitchen:
Hydrolyzed Quinoa Protein –
penetrates the hair shaft for robust protection.
Colza Oil-
loaded with Vitamin E that increases moisture and smoothness while assisting with hair growth.
Matcha Extract –
is useful for hair growth, maintaining healthy hair, and beneficial to your scalp’s skin.
HP Starch –
helpful for those with oily and moist scalp; cornstarch sucks up the the condensation and grease , so your scalp and hair stays fresh.

You never realize what you have until it is gone. Since March, I’ve been working from home, and I missed getting dress up to go to work. I was excited when my boss sent a schedule for us to be in the office part-time. My first outfit back at the office was a soft pink silk blouse with a gold shimmer pencil skirt, black booties, and a face mask that screams “I’M BACK.” Even though I didn’t have an audience to show off to, it felt good getting dressed up to go to work. Those of you working from home until next year, you’ll find that wearing a cute outfit to your next zoom meeting will make you feel better.

FBF: Out and About in NYC

Before social distancing was a thing, I took a trip to New York for Labor Day weekend to show off my latest finds from the Thrift Store.

On Saturday night, I attended an Afrobeats and Dancehall party in honor of the West Indian Day Parade. I wore a gold sleeveless tie-front crop top blouse with ripped jeans and tan pumps from DSW clearance rack.

After dancing the night away, I was not interested in wearing heels the second day in a row to go to brunch, church, and shop. I decided to wear my converse with an orange J-Crew tie-front pleated dress and an oversized jean jacket taken from my mother’s closest.

I wore a beige vintage Dooney and Burke purse with both outfits.

I had the opportunity of helping Founder Kendra of The Classic Cue Vision become a reality at her first event, “Spring Out the Box, A Recipe Swap,” on April 8, 2017. For those of you who are not familiar with The Classic Cue; this brand provides the latest trends for fashion, interior design, travel, and lifestyle.  Kendra wanted to introduce her guest to Spring with new recipes to try at home. These dishes were ideal for date nights, dinner parties, or to prevent spending money at restaurants. We had a live demonstration performed by food connoisseur, Yvonne, who prepared veggie empanadas, and professional Chef Sage from the Food Network show, Chop’t, who made mini fish tacos. Of course, we also had two ladies who great are examples of career women who find time to cook with their busy schedule. Their asparagus tart and Cajun shrimp and crab dip were simply amazing. After experiencing great cuisines from these ladies, we ended the event with fresh sounds from DJ Juliana. Make sure you check out The Classic Cue website for these wonderful recipes, Click Here.

In the meantime, check out photos from our photographer, Ashley Dorce.

HUE NOIR; Celebrating Women of Different Skin Tones

HUE NOIR; Celebrating Women of Different Skin Tones

As we completed our celebration of International Women’s Day on March 8, 2017, with the hashtag #adaywithoutwoman, Paula Hayes came to mind. She is a product chemist who founded the Hue Noir brand. She has successfully blended science and technology to develop high-quality makeup for women of color who have different skin tones, ranging from fair to deep. I had the pleasure of sampling the Perfect Pout Hydrating Lipstick, the Perfect Shine Hydrating Lipgloss, and the Perfect Pigment velvet eyeshadow from her product line.

Perfect Pout Hydrating Lipstick is true to its name. Hue Noir sent me their Flirtatious color (eggplant purple), which has a rich pigment. This lipstick provided me with moisture without the need of applying Chapstick before the lipstick because the product was blended with nourishing ingredients such as shea butter, jojoba, and avocado butter. Product retails for $25.00

The Perfect Shine Hydrating Lipgloss is my favorite gloss on the market and is worth $20.00. Unlike other brands, this lip gloss did not leave a tacky residue on my lips, and the sangria color that they sent me gave me a silky finish and subtle color. This product also had ingredients such as vitamin E and jojoba to keep the lips nicely moisturized.

The Perfect Pigment velvet eyeshadow was the product that I chose to wear to my event because it delivered twice the pigment and flattered my skin tone. This product retails for $22.00.

I enjoyed having this product at my Power and Beauty Event. Hue Noir brands represent women of all shades. Before going to Sephora to look at their brands, please check out Hue Noir for their fantastic product line.
